Coach Ray, is the founder of Club Bionik Energy Lounge. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Duke University where he studied cell and molecular biology. As an undergraduate, he conducted immunology research at Duke Medical Center and helped to start the Duke student science magazine. After graduation he began a twenty-year career in the biotech industry interrupted only by a two year return stint to Duke for his MBA.

During his career in the corporate world Coach Ray worked on the development and marketing of breakthrough biopharmaceutical drugs for serious diseases such as cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, infectious disease, and lupus.

As a typical working professional, Coach Ray found it hard to eat properly and stay fit. He was frustrated that a traditional gym routine was not improving his overall fitness. Although his career had focused on drugs for the treatment of disease, he had always been interested in how fitness and nutrition could help to reduce or even prevent chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and cancer.

In his late 30’s, he decided to become better educated. He changed his diet to focus on low fat/high fiber foods and began to exercise using the principles of functional fitness. These changes worked for him and he wanted to share this approach with others. In 2006, he became an entrepreneur by founding Generation Z Health LLC and started the planning for Club Bionik Energy Lounge to help teens and adults improve their health.

Coach Ray has lived on both US coasts and has traveled abroad to a dozen countries. He is an avid multi-sport fitness enthusiast. His favorite activities are bicycling, both on and off the road, snowboarding, and stability ball weight training. He is famous for spectacular crashes on his bike, snowboard, and surfboard so if you see him coming you better look out!

In 1996, Coach Ray was 30 lbs. overweight!

"Like many people, I took in more calories than my body needed and I did not pay attention to proper nutrition.

I disliked going to the gym because it was such a boring and unfriendly place. When I did go, I found I was not getting results. I knew I had to try a fresh approach."
