Session #7 - #10 Small group strength and flexibility session + personal cardio pod time. Ideally sessions #7-11 would be completed by week 4 or 5.

Session #11 One-on-one session - If sessions 1-11 have been completed over the first 4-5 weeks and the outside club cardio exercise has been performed, you should begin to notice some changes in your body and fitness level. In this private session we will, as always, review key concepts and answer any questions. We will also expand your option by introducing additional cardio gaming options (try EyeToy Kinetic Combat!).

Sessions #12 - #19 - Small group strength and flexibility session + personal cardio pod time.

Session #20 - One-on-one session - This session should take place during week 8 or 9 of the program. A re-assessment of the session 1 measurements and exercises is performed and ideally you will see noticeable improvements in your weight and body fat level, muscular strength, cardio endurance.

Q&A with Coach Ray

Q: Where did you get the idea for the Club Bionik Energy Lounge concept?

A: When I began developing a new wave approach to fitness in 2006, I discovered that many people who were overweight and out of shape were not lazy or unconcerned about their health. Rather, they were frustrated and lacked basic knowledge about exercise. Maybe they had tried a traditional gym and decided that the environment was too uncomfortable (being around lots of thin, muscular people can be intimidating) or maybe they just didn't know where to go or how to start.

I imagined a place that was not a "gym" where you dreaded going, but more like a trendy downtown night club where you could meet friends and have fun. When you are active you feel energized, so it would be an "energy lounge". Instead of boring "workouts" we would engage in "active play". A coach would walk around to educate and motivate so that no one wandered around clueless wasting time and effort.

Q: What makes Club Bionik special?

A: We specifically designed the adult program at Club Bionik for people who do not care for the traditional gym setting. Our research told us that there were common objections among these folks so we designed Club Bionik to overcome these issues.

The elements that make Club Bionik special are:

1. Club Bionik emphasizes teaching the key concepts of fitness and weight management, we don't just blindly walk you through a set of routines.

2. Club Bionik sessions are organized according to the fitness and health level of the member so no one feels embarrassed or intimated by an intensity or skill level that is too hard.

3. Club Bionik is the only facility that offers the private cardio pod which allows the member to exercise in privacy if that is desired.

4. Club Bionik sessions are small to allow personal attention by the trainer ACSM certified trainer, but the group setting keeps it affordable.

The Club Bionik Program

The adult fitness program at Club Bionik Energy Lounge has been designed specifically for people who have had difficulty achieving their fitness goals in the past. Our program combines the best elements of personal training with group fitness and makes it affordable for everyone.

We do not offer the traditional open club format because our members desire a more personal training studo approach to their health. We schedule our facility to meet their needs.

Since most members share a common goal of weight loss, the adult fitness program at Club Bionik has been designed to meet the American College of Sports Medicine/American Heart Association physical activity guidelines for weight loss, maintenance of health, and reduction of risk for chronic disease (healthy, age <65).

The initial 20 session program is divided into 5 segments. A member does not have to commit financially to the entire program at the start and can choose to exit the program at several different points in time if desired. Sessions 1-6 should take 2-3 weeks to complete depending on your schedule.

Membership Fees

Our program provides the value of personal training, the fun of group fitness, and the affordability of a traditional club. Because fitness success depends on knowledge, measurement, and feedback, the program includes private, one-on-one "check in" sessions with the ACSM certified trainer to ensure you stay on track and don't fall into bad habits. Without these sessions many people would get frustrated. This is what makes the Club Bionik approach unique. The typical fee for one-on-one sessions is $60/hour, however, program members get many of the benefits of solo training without the full cost.

There are no long-term contractas t Club Bionik. Sessions 1 & 2 are bundled together because they are the foundation of a member's learning. Sessions 3 - 6 include a combination of one-on-one and small group experiences and represent the first 2 weeks.

Club Bionik membership fee: $45

Sessions 1 & 2 package: $55

Sessions 3, 4, 5, & 6 package: $70

Sessions 7, 8, 9, 10, & 11 package: $80

Sessions 12, 13, 14, 15 package: $45

Sessions 16, 17, 18, 19 & 20 package: $80

The fee for additional sessions beyond #20 is $45/4 session package. All sessions are 30-35 minutes in length. This allows the member to complete their small group session and spend an additional 20-30 minutes on private cardio pod time in approximately 1 hour. If after session 2, 6, 11, 15, or 20 a member decides to exit the program, there are no additional fees or penalties. At anytime a member may opt for one-on-one sessions under the Bionik-1 program. The fee for Bionik-1 is $60/hr.

Sessions are held 10 am-1 pm or after 6 pm. Experience has shown that the best way to keep a fitness program on track is to schedule sessions in advance. Since Club Bionik is based on small group sessions, we require a reservation for all sessions. Because we will hold a spot for you in your group, you must cancel a reservation by 11 pm via phone or email the night before your reservation in order to avoid being charged for the session. We allow one "no show" without a penalty. However after the first "no show" session, we must charge the member for the session.

Session #1 Assessment session - We take some basic body measurements (weight, waist size, etc.) and have you perform some specific exercises in order to determine your starting level of strength, endurance, flexibility, and body composition. Later on down the road you will repeat these measurements and exercises so that you can see the level of improvement.

Session #2 One on one session - We include a "classroom" discussion of how cardio and functional fitness strength programs work together. Then we will walk you through the target exercises designed to meet your personal goals and physical limitations (e.g. joint or muscle pain, etc.). You learn how to operate the cardio pod equipment (learn which buttons to push on a treadmill, bike, etc.) and the electronic cardio devices (check out Wii Boxing to get your heart pumping).

Session #3 Small group strength and flexibility session - You join a small group of other members who have a similar level of fitness in a session using the functional fitness tools (Bosu, stability, and strength balls, resistance bands, etc.) with the goal of improving muscular strength, tone, and flexibility. You won't feel intimidated because everyone in your group will have a goal that is similar to yours.

Session #4 Small group strength and flexibility session + personal cardio pod time - Since you learned to operate the cardio machines in session 2, you will walk, jog, or pedal your way into your target heart rate zone for 30 minutes.

Session #6 One-on-one session - The key concepts and exercises you have learned through the previous sessions will be briefly reviewed (for example, the role of strength training in losing weight). We will also answer any questions (what is my target heart rate zone again??) and conduct a private strength and flexibility session to ensure you are comfortable with the proper form of the functional fitness movements. In this session we will also outline the cardio activities, if any, you may need to do outside of the club to meet long-term weight loss goals. The objective of sessions #1-6 is to

5. Club Bionik uses a functional fitness approach that improves your range of motion and core strength by exercising in 3 dimensions, rather than the 2 dimensional method used by traditional body building machines.

6. Club Bionik sessions are never boring because we offer all of the cool electronic gadgets that the ProTeens love including Playstation GameBikes, Nintendo Wii, Dance Dance Revolution, and more!

7. Club Bionik has been decorated in trendy designer colors and furnishings to create an inviting energizing space that is more nightclub than bland gym.

8. Club Bionik does not use automatic monthly billing, rather we use a session-based fee. So if you can't get to the club for a week you aren't wasting your programming fees.
